Everyone who joins a martial art is interested in being the thrower, striker, or choker. In short, defending. No one signs up to be thrown, struck, or choked. In short, attacking.

However, without attackers, we cannot practice our art. Becoming a good attacker is as important as developing your defensive skills. Practice your falls and rolls just as diligently as you practice your techniques.

When it's your turn to be the uke:
- give a committed attack
- don't fall or tap unless it's necessary. the worst thing you can do is mislead your partner into thinking that their defenses are working when they're not effective.
- work with beginners to improve their technique and, more importantly, their confidence. don't resist a beginner as you would a more advanced student.

When your fellow martial artists regard you as a good uke, know that it is one of the highest compliments you can receive.
