Today's Jo staff seminar was excellent! Seth taugh us advancing and retreating attacks and defenses, then we worked all the way through the 21-step kata. There were enough students that we had to take care not to crowd each other. Using a Jo staff creates a big footprint. (Engineering term for how much space something takes.)
I hope Seth will correct what I've said here, and perhaps state the proper name of that kata.
I figure that if I practice it with regular instruction from a sensei, I should have that one down in 10 years or so.

I happened to use the Stumble toolbar and it took me to this site. Not exactly what we studied today, but I think they were after the same thing. It's from 1901. I think we should try dressing like that for the next Jo staff class.

Wow, I really had a blast. I did not realize how good I was working the shoulders until I woke up Sunday morning ;). It is not everyday you get to say you have a 21 step kata pushed into your head. I checked this morning and I can still remember it, so I guess it was a success. Thanks for a really great class Seth.
