A WORD ABOUT KIDS

Kids today face a vastly different world than their parents. Many dangerous situations can confront a child every day, regardless of where they live or go to school.

SEVEN OWL DOJO makes each children's class exciting and stimulating while including important Life Safety Lessons at the end of each class.

BELT RANKINGS

Colored belts were introduced by the founder of Judo, Dr. Jigaro Kano. Dr. Kano was a noted Japanese educator that blended many different styles of Ju-Jitsu into modern Judo. The different belt colors are indicators of the student's skills and expertise.

Any colored belt costs less than $5.00 and may not represent a true skill. There are schools in the Carolinas that are known for their gross misrepresentation of belt rankings by awarding people higher ranks than they deserve.

SEVEN OWL DOJO believes that each student should progress according to their training commitment and skill ability. At our dojo, belts are not purchased or given. At our dojo, belts are earned.

Be cautious of schools that guarantee a belt at any given time. Written tests and skill demonstrations are the true way to earn a belt.

Anything else is a disservice to you.

INSTRUCTORS

At some schools in the Carolinas, the chief instructor may not teach. This situation can lead to his or her skills decreasing and problems in the school. Conversely, if the chief instructor does all the teaching, fresh ideas may not be allowed to surface during training.

Talk to as many of the instructors as you can. Question them about how they teach and if the chief instructor evaluates them on a regular basis. Watch the classes and see if the style of teaching is consistent.
